Safety Policy

How we keep Noora safe: what isn’t allowed, how verification works, and what happens after a report.

What isn’t allowed

Our Terms and Community Guidelines set out everything that isn’t allowed. Above all, we don’t allow anything that threatens the safety of a member or anyone else, on Noora or off it. That includes any act, threat or attempt of homicide, unlawful sexual behavior, assault, kidnapping, stalking, harassment, involuntary intoxication, robbery or theft.

Engaging in sexual conduct with another person without their consent violates this policy, is against the law, and may result in criminal or civil liability.

Criminal background checks

Noora doesn’t run criminal background checks on members. Our Terms don’t allow anyone to use Noora who has been convicted of, or pleaded guilty or no contest to, a crime involving violence, threats of violence or sexual misconduct, or who must register as a sex offender. If we learn that a member falls into one of these groups, we ban them.

Identity and age

Every member takes a selfie in the app when they sign up. With their consent, our verification provider checks that a real person took it and that it matches their profile photos. If the checks don’t clearly pass, or a member doesn’t consent, our team compares the selfie with the photos instead. Every new profile and photo is checked before other members can see it.

Noora is only for adults. Members give their date of birth when they sign up, and we don’t let anyone under 18 create an account. We don’t check identity documents, so verification can’t guarantee who someone is.

Reporting

You can report a member from their profile, from your conversation with them, or from their story. Reporting someone also blocks them, and they are never told who reported them. If someone is in danger, contact local emergency services first.

Please report honestly. Don’t make false reports, or report someone for malicious, biased or any other illegitimate reason. Doing so breaks our Terms, and we act against accounts that do.

What happens after a report

Our team reviews every report within 24 hours. These decisions are made by people, not by automated systems. Depending on what happened and the member’s history, we may:

  • Warn the member for a first minor issue.
  • Suspend the member’s profile for 7 days, for a second issue within 6 months or a first serious one such as sexual comments or harassment. While suspended, other members can’t find them, and they can’t message, like, match or post.
  • Ban the member permanently for a third issue, or for anything severe, such as threats, explicit photos, asking for money or other scams, a fake identity, being under 18, or coming back on a new account after a ban.

We may skip steps when needed to protect members. Reports never hide an account automatically. Our team reviews every report, and a person decides every warning, suspension and ban.

Appeals

A member who is suspended or banned can tap Appeal This Decision on the suspension or ban screen and tell us why. Each decision can be appealed once. A person on our team reviews every appeal and replies by email, or in the app if the account has no confirmed email address. If we reverse a decision, we restore the account fully.

Telling other members

If we ban a member because we believe they used a false identity, or tried to get money from other members by fraud, we tell every member who received a message from them and replied to it. We send this by email, or in the app if we can’t email you, within 24 hours of the ban and never more than 3 days after it. The notice gives the banned member’s first name, says why we banned them, reminds members never to send money or financial details to another member, and links to our safety tips.

We don’t otherwise tell other members about a report.

How we keep Noora safe

  • A selfie check for every new member, and review of every new profile and photo before it is shown.
  • Screening of photos and stories for content that isn’t allowed.
  • Reporting and blocking from every profile, conversation and story, with every report reviewed by a person within 24 hours.
  • Bans that stay in place after an account is deleted, so banned members can’t come back.
  • Removal of intimate images shared without consent within 48 hours of a valid request, as explained on our Support page.
  • Safety tips for meeting someone safely, also in the app under Settings, Safety.
